Politics of the Machines is pleased to announce that its 6th international conference will take place at Kyushu University’s Ohashi Campus in Fukuoka, Japan, March 2027.
As the first POM edition to be held in East Asia, POM Fukuoka 2027 opens a new chapter in the platform’s distributed international development. Under the theme Culturing Transduction, the conference will explore how processes of transformation across life, sound, and food can reshape artistic creation, cultural production, perception, and critical thought. The theme asks how signals, materials, organisms, technologies, and environments are not merely transmitted, but transformed through acts of reading, encoding, interpretation, and embodied exchange. From biological transduction to vibration, food systems, sensory experience, and more-than-human agencies, POM Fukuoka 2027 invites participants to rethink the relationship between humans, machines, living systems, and cultural practice in an era of crisis.
The Call for Track Topics is now open. This first phase invites teams of 2–3 individuals to propose track topics that will help define the intellectual and experimental framework of the conference. Selected tracks will later guide the second phase: a Call for Submissions for abstracts, workshops, interventions, and other contributions.
To support expanded track thinking, the Fukuoka edition will also draw on the distinctive facilities of Kyushu University’s Ohashi Campus, including the BioFoodLab and the Acoustic Research Center. These spaces offer possibilities for tracks engaging with sound, food, perception, signal, experimentation, and technological mediation.
Track topic proposals are open until 7 June 2026.
