Laura Beloff

Laura Beloff (Ph.D.) is an internationally acclaimed Finland-based artist and academic researcher working across art, science, and technology. Grounded in artistic research, her concept-driven practice explores porous boundaries between biology and technology through installations, wearables, and participatory projects. Exhibited widely, including at the Venice Biennale Extras and Ars Electronica, she is currently Associate Professor and Vice-Dean for Artistic and Creative Practices at Aalto School of Art, Design and Architecture.

Hassan Choubassi

Hassan Choubassi is an artist, researcher, and Associate Professor of Communication Arts at the Lebanese International University, where he directs the Institute of Visual Communication (IVC). His work explores AI, post-human aesthetics, and media theory, with a particular focus on machine-generated imagery, the synthetic imago, and the evolving relationship between human subjectivity and artificial intelligence.

Joe Elias

General Board Member

Joe Elias is a designer, artistic researcher, and educator working across visual communication, media, and emerging technologies. He is Co-founder and Associate Director of the Institute of Visual Communication (IVC) at Beirut International University, where he serves as Visiting Lecturer. Based in Germany, he works as a consultant on digital transformation, AI-driven systems, and experience design.

Hege Tapio

General Board Member

Hege Tapio is a Norwegian artist, curator, and researcher working across art, technology, and the life sciences. Her work investigates how biological systems, machines, and technological infrastructures shape contemporary life. Founder of i/o/lab and curator of the Article Biennale (2006–2016), she develops speculative artistic research addressing the political and ethical dimensions of emerging techno-biological systems.

G Douglas Barrett

G Douglas Barrett is a researcher and practitioner working on experimental music, contemporary art, and media theory. His work examines how art and technology since the Second World War address political economy, power, and social inequality. He is the author of Experimenting the Human (2023) and After Sound (2016).

Cynthia Blanchette

Editorial Board Member

Cynthia Blanchette is a Canadian artist-researcher based in Finland, working as a Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Art and Media at Aalto University. Blanchette works at the intersection of art, science, and technology, while remaining rooted in craft, folk, and healthcare practices. Blanchette has been on the Politics of the Machines (POM) Editorial Board since 2026 and taken part in the POM conferences since 2024.

Claudio Filho

Editorial Board Member

Claudio Filho is an artist-researcher working at the intersection of art, ecology, and technology, focusing on biological arts, nonhuman agency, and artificial intelligence. He holds a Ph.D. in Visual Arts from the University of Campinas (Brazil), where he developed the concept of the “Ecosystemic Turn” in artistic research. His work combines theory-based research with practice-based experimentation, exploring how technological systems and living organisms co-compose artistic processes.
